Metrics to track AI search visibility over time (the “how it changes” layer)
1) Share of Answers (SoA)
Definition:
SoA = (# tracked queries where your brand is mentioned) ÷ (total tracked queries)
Why it matters:
SoA is the closest thing to “rank share” in AI answers.
Make it useful:
segment it by:
- Funnel stage (TOFU / MOFU / BOFU)
- Persona (growth lead vs developer vs finance)
- Query type (comparison, “best,” “how to,” alternatives)
2) Citation Share (SoC)
Citations are a trust signal. Track:

- neutral (listed without evaluation),

Visibility drift often happens because:
- Don’t cover the long-tail,

Track which brands appear with you, and whether that set changes over time. You’re watching for:

8) Volatility & drift (stability score)
If your SoA swings wildly week to week, leadership won’t trust the channel. A simple stability score:
- compute SoA weekly,
- compute the variance/standard deviation,
